|

I've settled on Undead Space Nazis for a 1940s space adventure using the Slipstream rules and need a little help with the German language from the native/fluent German speakers in the forums.
I look up Zombie and Undead on bablefish and the German translation gives me Zombie and Undead. Who knew those were German words.
So, since I want the name from my undead space Nazis to sound German, I was wondering if something like lebentoter Soldat (living dead Soldier) might be appropriate. _________________ MapTool/Savage Worlds Blog

Zombie is indeed Zombie, but undead is Untoter.
lebendtoter Soldat sounds clumsy. Untoter Soldat is better.
What do you think about Totenkopf-staffel (Deatskull squadron- TS for short- Schädelsoldat in german Slang or Skullsoldier or living skulls for your GI)?
Edit: be aware that the Totenkopfstaffel existed, they guarded the concentration camps, so they are infamous and maybe you could hurt someones feeling. On the other side, they made some terrible scientific experiments in this camps.... |

Great ideas. The death camps do indeed play a role as the Nazis adjust their final solution but I'll make sure to poll the audience first to avoid offending folks. _________________ MapTool/Savage Worlds Blog

I Overflow a Wikipiedia article, because I doesnt really know much about it.
The Totenkopfstaffel was part of the SS (SS-Totenkopfverbände), designated to guard the camps.
Around 1940 they get gradualy integrated in the normal SS to support the war. The idea was to revive them after the german victory.
I dont know your timeline, but I think it sounds cool to revive them as undead company. |

Yes. Verbände means unit, but it could mean different things, too. |

Actually, Verbände is plural.
And a Verband is considerably more than one unit. It's related to bind, as in multiple units bound together. I guess the most appropriate translatinon would be devisions - although I'm not sure if the Totenkopfverbände actually came close in size to an army devision.
Also, I think such fancyful names as Totenkopfverband were only use by the SS and other Party-organizations. The regular army was much more pragmatic in their naming practices. So I guess if undead were used in great number as cannon fodder or shock troops, they'd simply be called Untote Truppen (undead troops). There's no need for a singular name, as a single undead is usually not worth talking about (or to). _________________ Please Click: |

Anyone want to volunteer to translate some game handouts into German? |
Send it to me, I see what I can do.
Read your description. Where are the main holding of the Nazis? Once they had forces on venus, but there was a "uprising". Where do they prepare their raids. Or is it unknown? |
