|
|
I'm just looking into Savage Worlds and wanted to try a sci-fi game.
Are the Sci-Fi Toolkit books compatible with the deluxe explorer's edition of the core rules?
Or should I wait for a sci-fi companion?
Any info is appreciated. |

Mostly. You can use the vast majority of the info in it as is. Some things may need to be updated to Deluxe, but its a go for the majority of the info... _________________ "Anything smaller is just fiddly, and fiddly is not one of SvgW's three Fs..." |

I've been using it for our groups sci-fi games. I expect there will be some changes for instance I noticed the confusion power in the toolkit is more expensive than the same power in deluxe.
I'm also hoping there will be different mecha rules since the ones in toolkit need some tweaking. |

Welcome to the forum.
You don't actually need the sci-fi toolkit. It has a lot of optional gear, optional setting rules (vehicles, space ships, mechs, cybernetics, etc.), and some great aids for building your setting (planet and system generators, etc.), but a creative GM doesn't need it. Us lesser mortals, however, benefit from the tools, ideas, and inspirations in the toolkit.
You can use the Sci-Fi toolkit with Deluxe just fine.
There may be a few quirks in the powers (choose which version you want to use), and the sidebars about the various vehicles in Chases is irrelevant (the chase rules in Deluxe are significantly different from the ones in use when the toolkit was written).
Everything else should be fully compatible.
Good luck! _________________ "Got a problem? I've got the solution: Rocket Launcher."

The SciFi *Companion* is also fairly close to coming out (within the year), and will revise *everything* in the Toolkits, so if you can wait, I'd wait.

PEG pre-orders come with a pdf copy. Which means we won't see pre-orders until they have something to sell.
They'd like to take our money, but their danged sense of professionalism prevents them from not offering the thing we're paying for. _________________ "Got a problem? I've got the solution: Rocket Launcher."
