| With the forum Reloaded, and the annnouncement of Reloaded I though it'd be worthwhile to put this poll back up. FWIW, I'm working on a conversion of my own since there's been no word from PEG on the matter since the teaser in the Deadlands conversion. |

I figure we'll have an official conversion after Reloaded comes out. It's just a matter of time, most likely within a year. By that time I'll be done Hearts of Steel & I'll get back to Deadlands/GRW Japan. _________________ "Any sufficiently analyzed magic is indistinguishable from science!" - Agatha Heterodyne

I say no. Nothing should ever be converted to Savage Worlds. _________________ I don't care about Savage Worlds or any of that hoopla! I want what put you on the map! DEADLANDS! |

So buy the GRW bundle(if you haven't already), get the supplements from RPGNow(if you haven't already), find someone who actually still plays it and quit whining! Yeesh. _________________ "Any sufficiently analyzed magic is indistinguishable from science!" - Agatha Heterodyne

Actually, I don't think GRW should be converted to use SW. Instead, I'd like to see GRW 3rd Edition, as a well supported relauch of the game, complete with a new miniature line.
The GRW 3rd edition would include many of the improvements appropriate for wargaming introduced with SW, without all the extra RPG baggage.
To take it further, and increase sales overall a skirmish mode would be added to the book to provide players with something to play early on while miniatures are scarce. _________________ - Anthony

While I do like GRW, for the few times I played it, it just seems archaic to me compared to Savage Worlds. Now it's true that SW was designed primarily as a set of RPG rules, but as I mentioned elsewhere, it's got the potential to be a great miniatures game. Besides, there REALLY ISN'T THAT MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE between SW and GRW in terms of rules. Sure, Spirit rolls are used to recover from being Shaken(Eatin Dirt) instead of Vigor, but apart from that and a few minor rules differences, the only thing keeping me from playing Savage GRW is the need to come up with the point values(and the lack of an updated Army Builder) and the fact that I'm in the middle of an Evernight campaign and writing a Savage Tale (which I then have to playtest).
To me, the upgrade between GRW and SW is kinda like the upgrade from AD&D1 to AD&D2, rules-wise. Extraneous stuff was taken out, systems were simplified and a bunch of stuff was added. Rules-wise it was great, the only problem being that the "feel" was severely diminished (something fixed for the most part in 3e). Now it's the same with Savage Worlds. Does Savage Worlds have the same "feel" as GRW? Not at all. But in terms of rules, it really ain't different enough to whine about. _________________ "Any sufficiently analyzed magic is indistinguishable from science!" - Agatha Heterodyne

I'm in the middle of converting GRW army lists to SW. I'm through Hired Guns, Bayou Vermillion and Black River, and mostly through Dixie Rails. As you can see I'm going in alpha order so Iron Dragon, Lost Angels, Union Blue and Wasatch are next. Hoping to have most of it done by this weekend.
It's been surprisingly easy to do. I've removed all the repair/healers since SW helaing rules do not work in the middle of battle. I've also taken out some of the more off-the wall units like the Deadbeat Band until I'm more comfortable with the conversion.
Anyway I've got a game scheduled for this weekend, and potential for some regular games after that. I'll let you know how it goes. |

Hey Rorschach, are you subscribed to the Great Rail Wars Yahoo Group? My last post was a quick & dirty conversion of Cajun Hunters. IMHO, the healing rules in SW were more for the RPG side and could be changed to something closer to the original GRW rules.
(By the way, you are using the REVISED point values, right?) _________________ "Any sufficiently analyzed magic is indistinguishable from science!" - Agatha Heterodyne

What's the status of hte point value conversions?
I'd love to take a gander at them. _________________ Co-Host of Fear the Boot

I'm not sure I understood that comment about the healing rules not working in battle in the SW system... what's the problem with them? Can't you just give a Sawbones, a Houngan or a Mad Scientist a "Healing/Repair Dead/Tinkering" ability with a die code and let them work the way they do in GRW?
Just curious, haven't gotten that far in SW, myself.

I'll personally play whatever is on offer -- although I will be doing most of my work in SW these days.
Oh, for those of you not on the listserve, Shane has indicated that something skirmish players may be interested in will be showing up on the web site Tuesdayish.
Take care.

Wow, this thread is still around after almost three years? Hopefully Slaughter Gulch will be out in less time than that! _________________ "Any sufficiently analyzed magic is indistinguishable from science!" - Agatha Heterodyne

I don't know anything about Slaughter Gulch, is it suppose to be the next incarnation of GRW?
Edit: Nevermind, I read the other thread! Duh. _________________ Never play cards with a man called Doc |

PEM:D, I know it's been almost seven years, but do you still have your conversion rules? _________________ Proud co-creator of the 1,000+ Random Encounter Generator found here! |
