WEll, there is a cowboy in Dracula. . .so there's not much I can do about it.
On the plus side, it sounds cool! Plus, I've got a Van Helsing-like game called Rippers coming later this year, so we'll call it an even-trade (though we really had started on this quite some time before seeing the VH poster).

The old west and weird happenings aren't the sole property of Deadlands.
If they used names or events directly from a Deadlands book then that would be a trademark violation or some such. That article mentions a cowboy and odd occurences...lets wait and see.

The hard part would be bridging the gap between a show and a game. Hmmm...tv ads.
Anyone remember when TSR had commercials? I remember the D&D and Indiana Jones RPG spots. _________________ I'm not an adversarial GM. I am a facilitator of awesomeness. - Dr Rotwang |

Movies and TV shows that have similarities to RPG's are good for all of us!
They sort of promote each other in the gaming/sci-fi/fantasy/horror world.
Here's another:

Yeah, I remember the D&D commercials, Heck even Gary Gygax's Dangerous Journeys had a set of TV ads, It's too bad more games don't advertise on TV. Peronally I think a Deadlands TV Spot would be cool! _________________ Dead is Dead, Parts Is parts And dead guys is parts! |

I think we'll see something of the sort eventually. The genre is growing. d20 does that much well. You don't need more math than they covered in elementary school. Big selling point among the masses.
I find marketing a rather depressing thing. I make my buying decisions based on a series of reviews and local testimonials. (After all, even if goodyear's the best over all the US, that doesn't mean the local store's even close to average.) The concept that someone can see three commercials for a soda product that's been on the market longer than they've been alive and decide to buy some... especially when Britney Spears is the one hawking it... just makes me feel like I'm sitting on one of Shane's better (creepier) ideas. _________________ There is no sig file that seems witty after 50 posts. |

Back on the subject of plagarizing Deadlands, whatever happened to that Ghost Rock movie? I swear, that guy had colossal gall when he told how he got the idea for the movie. I can't recall the exact words, but I do remember that it sounded phonier than a twelve dollar bill. _________________ The rabbit is cuddly. Kids like little cuddly sidekicks. Wierd West has been around since TSRs Boot Hill - the DMG conversion notes are what got me throwing zombies into our BH games - circa 1980 or so, IIRC
Deadlands just took the idea and developed it into a great game line... |

Hmmm just noticed who played "the barber" in Ghost Rock - Shane Lacey.
So far we have a film called "Ghost Rock"... Subtitled "the reckoning" & including "Shane Lacey in it's cast" _________________ "Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away." |
