Deadwood’s History Comes Alive in Celebration of Deadlands

Published On: May 18, 2021Categories: Events, News

Bringing history back to life in Deadlands usually involves a blood pact with a Manitou, but in the Wild West town of Deadwood, the dead rise and are gunned down again and again in the streets several times a day (except Sundays)!

We’ll be kicking off our spectacular weekend in style by boarding the 1880 Steam Train on Thursday Night for a round trip journey through the scenic Black Hills featuring an Old West shootout!

Back in town, the Deadwood Alive gunslingers gather on the street to re-enact three infamous shootouts from Deadwood’s past beginning at 2pm with the Strange Case of David Lunt. At 4pm, don’t miss a Showdown on Gold Street, while the Boone May and Prescott Webb shootout, that was broken up by none other than Sheriff Seth Bullock, takes place at 6pm sharp!

Expedition adventurers can head inside Saloon No. 10 at 1pm, 3pm, 5pm, and 7pm to see Wild Bill Hickok get dealt Aces and Eights before that Coward Jack McCall shoots him down. All of the above are free, historically accurate, gunfight re-enactments.

The 7pm shooting spills out on to Main Street for the capture of Jack McCall at 7:35pm and then heads into the Wild Bill Theatre at 8pm for a ticketed event: the Trial of Jack McCall.

Tour Deadwood by stagecoach every half hour from Noon until 4:30pm by stopping at the Luck Horse Stage Shop next to the Celebrity Hotel for tickets.

If hoofing it is more your speed, book your Lawman’s Patrol a day in advance to enjoy an hour-long history lesson in and around Deadwood’s key historical attractions.

With all the shootouts happening away from the table, we’d be remiss if we didn’t remind you that there will be plenty of black powder and ghost rock going up in smoke at the gaming tables in the afternoons and evenings in celebration of Deadlands‘ 25th Anniversary!
