Remembering Jeffrey D. Gordon
Recently, Jeffrey D. Gordon, creator and admin of Savaged.us, a character creation tool used by Savage Worlds players worldwide, succumbed to his long-running battle with cancer.
Jeff was an avid roleplaying gamer, and he considered his gaming community a second family. Immediately following the announcement of his passing, social media was abuzz with heartfelt stories and tributes about Jeff and his love of RPGs.
Here are just a few of those posts:
“Our good friend and creator of Savaged.us, Jeffrey D. Gordon, passed last night after a long and *incredibly courageous and inspirational* battle with cancer. His many, many friends are devastated by the news and hope his family can find some small amount of comfort in how much we all thought of him.” – Shane Hensley
“I’m crushed at the loss of my friend, the creator of Savaged.us, and an amazing force of nature, Jeff Gordon.” – Tracy Sizemore
“I first met Jeff in person at the third annual ChupacabraCon in Austin, back when it was still in January. I was attending the con on my birthday, and when he found out he and another great friend ran out to a grocery store and got me a birthday cake to share at the end of one of the panels I was doing. I’ve never forgotten that kind, thoughtful gesture for someone that he’d only met in person earlier that weekend. That’s the kind of guy that Jeff was though, and it has been my pleasure to know him over the years.” – Preston DuBose
“Very saddened at the passing of Jeffrey D. Gordon, one of the best people I knew in TTRPG gaming.” – Sean Tait Bircher
“Jeff was a friend, one of my players for the last 20 years, someone I learned to play 40k with, and other games. A wellspring of thoughts and ideas. A terrifically funny man, in a delightfully British, but not, kind of way.” – Shannon Troester
“The last picture he shared on our Discord was public … it was him, holding up a book we created, letting me know it was something he was happy to have. My friend was dying from cancer and wanted me to know he was supporting something I did and it brought him some joy, however small.
“That was Gordon, always kind and happy to support others to the very end. I have few people I can call a friend in the way he had become to me. Now I have one less friend in this world and I am the sadder for it.” – Brandon J. Verhalen
“Jeff was a genuinely kind and warm person, always willing to engage, share, and support others in the community. His legacy lives on in the friendships he fostered and the joy he brought to so many.” – Topher Scott
Our condolences go out to Jeff’s friends and family.
