Savage Worlds at Phoenix Fan Fusion
This past weekend, Phoenix Fan Fusion, a “multi-genre, pop-culture convention,” celebrated its 21st birthday at the Phoenix Convention Center located right in the heart of the city!
Alongside all the exhibitors, the cosplay, the special events, and the famous authors, artists, and actors from Star Trek, Star Wars, Doctor Who, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there were also plenty of games gracing the tables in the designated TTRPG area.
Among all the well-known and independent roleplaying games that were played, Savage Worlds made a significant impact with Phoenix RPG’s crew premiering a 50 Fathoms multi-table event where four tables played a combined adventure, each tasked with their own objectives. As they battled foes and uncovered secrets, wandering NPCs visited each table to help or hinder the heroes’ progress. Area wide storm damage also assured the tension was kept at maximum. By the end of the sessions, after a few hopeful sea shanties were sung, they were victorious in taking down the dark threat, although that was almost not the case. There were even some familiar faces amongst the players including Pinnacle President, Shane Hensley!
For the rest of the weekend, the Savage Worlds games (including Deadlands and Pinebox Middle School) were packed, and many new players got to learn the system for their first time.
By all reports, it was an excellent event, and everyone had a lot of fun!
Phoenix RPGs is always looking for more Savage Worlds GMs to help run events in the area, so if you’re in the area, check out their site and give ’em a like on Facebook!
