Work continues on the Science Fiction Companion module. So far we’ve managed to get most of the content down and are moving into the “crunchy stuff” to support new mechanics and features unique to the Science Fiction Companion. Since we know lots of people are asking about this one here’s a look at what we’re doing to make this product work on Foundry VTT. Afterall, if anything belongs in the digital world it’s sci-fi.

Embedded Content

In addition to our normal styled and linked journal entries we are also taking advantage of the embed functionality in Foundry V12. This lets us insert items, tables, and actors directly into the journal pages. For you this means being able to roll on tables from inside the journal, click to open an item, or drag it to a sheet or chat. For us, it means whenever we update item or actor data the journals are updated too. This should help improve accuracy of both sources over time.

Dynamic Tokens

We’ve developed a set of five sci-fi themed token rings designed by artist Cheyenne Wright—space opera, cyberpunk, military sci-fi, pulp, and techno-horror. Thanks to Foundry’s native dynamic token system you can switch rings based on your game theme and preferences.

Still to Do

While much of the content is prepped there’s still a lot of mechanics to create. Here’s a few examples:

  • Expanding the core ancestry builder to also create robots, vehicles, walkers, power armor, and starships.
  • Adding new combat types for Dramatic Clashes and Heavy Metal rules.
  • Updating the system Vehicle Sheet to account for Energy, Mods, Crew, Cargo, Walker Strength, and other improvements.
  • As usual there’s no set time for release but we are working with the system and module devs to create a highly integrated experience for your science fiction gaming needs.
