On Monday the dev team released SWADE 4.4.0. This is no mere maintenance release—it brings two long awaited features: vehicle crew and the modifier effect subtype!
Vehicle Crew:
The new vehicle sheet has been further expanded to allow drag and drop crew with roles. Drag on an actor and give them the role of operator or gunner. This is something people have really wanted for a long time and the new Science Fiction Companion module forced it to the top of the feature list. More crew functions and features are anticipated as this new feature grows and receives community feedback.
New Active Effect Subtype: Modifier
These special types of Active Effects can only be created on items and directly adjust the item they’re on. This has wide ranging applications. The most direct are power modifiers that change the cost of using powers and other effects like increased damage. However, “items” also includes weapons, armor, and gear.
These Modifiers include a special “cost” field that represents either the build or power point cost for the modifier. Further, Powers with active modifiers display a list when they’re used. One thing to remember is Active modifiers disable any affected fields on the item sheet—meaning you can’t edit those fields directly without removing/disabling the effect first.
If you haven’t guessed yet, this is not only a powerful change for making things like enchanted weapons and power modifiers, but a key building block for implementing the Super Powers Companion (no, we don’t have an ETA, but our team is actively working on it).
